I am an analytical chemist with 3 years of experience in a university chemistry lab. I am well-versed in the analysis of water (potable and waste), soil and plants. I am also very familiar with a range of instrumentation from analytical balances, through UV-vis & Fluorimeters, Liquid and Gas Chromatography to Atomic Absorption and Muffle furnaces. I am trained in laboratory first aid and safety practices. Additionally, I have a wealth of experience with designing and conducting laboratory experiments for both teaching and research. I am also very experienced with the design and modification of laboratory standard operating procedures and research methodologies. My current research towards the completion of my MSc in Analytical Chemistry is in structure elucidation of a natural product and I have started gaining experience with Mass spectrometry, NMR and FTIR and the interpretation of spectra generated thereof (which I had already studied quite extensively for the coursework of my MSc). Additionally, I also do quantitative data analysis in SPSS and R.

Senior Technician

A senior technician in a university chemistry lab. My role is in the academic, commercial and supervisory realms. I design, facilitate and conduct academic practicals to undergraduate and postgraduate students in chemistry. I conduct analysis of commercial samples for the department's business arm. I train and supervise 3 technicians and 2 technical assistants and students on work study attachments within the department. I am also responsible for quality assurance and control in the department and calibration of all instruments.
