Nessus Vulnerability Assesment |AI Automation
Category : Cybersecurity
A dedicated and self-taught cybersecurity beginner with a strong passion for Vulnerability Assessment using Tenable Nessus and leveraging AI/Python to automate security workflows. While I am at the start of my professional career, I have built a robust home-lab environment where I actively practice configuring, scheduling, and analyzing Nessus scans—while simultaneously writing Python scripts to take the manual work out of vulnerability management.
My expertise in Nessus includes:
Deploying Nessus scanners on virtualized networks (Kali Linux, Ubuntu) to scan intentionally vulnerable machines (Metasploitable, DVWA).
Configuring both authenticated and unauthenticated scans to accurately identify OS misconfigurations, missing patches, and web application flaws.
Interpreting scan results, filtering out false positives, and mapping detected CVEs to CVSS v3 scores to prioritize critical risks over informational ones.
Where AI Automation comes in:
Recognizing that manual report parsing slows down remediation, I have focused heavily on AI and Machine Learning automation to bridge the gap. I write Python scripts that:
Automatically parse Nessus .nessus XML and JSON export files to extract high-severity vulnerabilities.
Use basic Natural Language Processing (NLP) and keyword matching to group similar vulnerabilities across hundreds of hosts.
Generate automated executive summaries and markdown reports—cutting down post-scan analysis time from hours to just minutes.
Interface with the Nessus REST API to schedule periodic scans and trigger automated email alerts when a new "Critical" vulnerability is discovered.
I am currently exploring how lightweight AI models can suggest remediation steps based on historical patch data, making vulnerability assessment smarter rather than just louder. My ultimate goal is to help security teams stop drowning in data and start focusing on fixing actual threats.
I am actively looking for an entry-level role or internship where I can apply my automation skills to real-world Nessus deployments, learn from senior engineers, and continue growing as a security automation specialist.
