Ngethe Maina

I help startups, agencies, and growing businesses ship production‑grade web applications—fast.

With 10+ years of full‑stack development experience and a background as a Country Manager (led 50+ engineers), I bring both hands‑on coding and technical leadership to every project. I’ve built and scaled platforms used by millions of users, including:

SureCart – Event‑driven e‑commerce (Rails 7, React) serving thousands of merchants
NCBA Project NEO – Core banking migration for 5+ million users (QA Lead)
TRIO – Membership SaaS for 40+ Rotary clubs
5 Shopify brands – dosamigas, wicksofwit, dryerase, eatprimi, waltzingkangaroo (theme dev, custom forms, SEO)
ProductPine – Shopify cashback wallet + brand portal (Rails + React + Polaris)

What I deliver:
Full‑stack ownership – From database schema (PostgreSQL) to API (Node.js / Rails) to responsive UI (React / Next.js / Tailwind)
AI‑accelerated development – Daily use of Cursor, Claude, and Copilot to write cleaner code, automate tests, and ship features in half the time
Performance & reliability – Optimized queries, caching (Redis), background jobs (Sidekiq), and sub‑2‑second transaction validation
Remote‑native collaboration – 5+ years working US timezones (PST/MDT/EST) from Kenya. Available 9am–5pm EST. Clear async communicator, comfortable with daily standups and pair programming.

Why clients hire me:
I don’t just write code. I solve business problems. I’ve led pre‑sales, estimated complex projects, mentored junior devs, and helped founders turn vague ideas into launched products. You get a senior engineer who thinks like a technical partner.

Tech stack:
Ruby on Rails (5–8) · React · Node.js · TypeScript · Next.js · PostgreSQL · Redis · Sidekiq · Docker · AWS (S3, EC2) · Heroku · Tailwind · Shopify Liquid · RSpec · GitLab CI / GitHub Actions

Let’s work together. Tell me about your project, and I’ll give you an honest estimate and a path to launch.
