Description
I'm seeking an experienced WordPress developer to modernise the official website of Dr. Ghada Karmi, a world-renowned Palestinian author and academic. The current site was built in 2007 and requires a complete migration from a legacy cPanel environment to a modern, secure, and mobile-first WordPress platform.
Current Status: * 5-page legacy site (HTML/PHP).
Full access to cPanel/Hosting and Domain Registrar.
The Full Scope of Work:
1. Content Harvesting & Migration:
Carefully extract all text, bibliography, and media from the 2007 backend.
Standard WordPress installation and configuration on existing hosting.
Re-map the information architecture to ensure the academic legacy is preserved while the UI is modernized.
2. Mobile-First Design & UX:
Implement a clean, sophisticated, and "mobile-responsive" theme suitable for an academic/literary brand.
Rigorous mobile testing to ensure perfect readability on all smartphone and tablet devices.
3. Advanced Security Hardening:
Security Firewall: Installation and configuration of a robust Web Application Firewall (WAF) to protect against targeted attacks (essential for her pro-Palestine advocacy).
SSL Configuration: Ensuring the SSL certificate (HTTPS) is correctly forced sitewide so the site is never flagged as "Unsafe."
Bot Protection: Implementation of anti-spam and brute-force login protection.
4. SEO & Continuity:
Link Preservation: Setting up 301 redirects for all legacy URLs to ensure 20 years of Google ranking is not lost.
On-Page SEO: Proper tagging, meta-descriptions, and sitemap generation.
5. Maintenance & Reliability:
Automatic Backups: Setting up a "set-and-forget" daily backup system (off-site storage preferred).
Handover: A 20-minute walkthrough on how our small team can update the site with new Substack articles and videos.
Requirements:
Proven experience in legacy site migrations.
Expertise in WordPress security and performance optimisation.
A portfolio that demonstrates clean, minimalist, and readable design.
